Madrid is strengthening its role as a leader in urban innovation with the launch of Sandbox Madrid at South Summit, an initiative designed to facilitate the testing and validation of innovative solutions in real-world settings before they reach the market.

At the latest edition of South Summit, held at La Nave, professionals from the technology, business, and institutional sectors discussed the potential of test environments as drivers of innovation and urban transformation.

The session “Building the Future: Madrid’s Innovation Sandbox in Action” was moderated by Sara Gutiérrez, Technical Advisor at the Directorate General for Innovation, and featured Alejandro Alonso Portero, Head of Innovation at Telefónica España; James Scott, founder of 24/7 Data; and Javier Diana López, partner at Panka Sp.

During the meeting, participants highlighted the opportunities offered by a controlled environment for testing their projects before launching them on the market: addressing operational challenges in a real-world setting, reducing uncertainty, and conducting a pilot program that allows for adjustments to the solution if necessary.

In this regard, it has become clear that Madrid is a fantastic setting that opens the door to reaching a wide audience and shares many commonalities with other European cities, making it easy to replicate and scale.

Participants shared their experiences with innovative projects, highlighting the importance of institutional support for testing solutions and how such support serves as a guarantee for entering the market.

Madrid is becoming a true hub of innovation. The launch of SandboxMadrid further enhances all the strategic advantages the city offers for driving innovation.
