The Madrid City Council has presented Sandbox Madrid, a testing ground for innovation that the city promotes among public and private entities.

The initiative allows companies, entrepreneurs, or any public or private entity to test innovative solutions in the city, in real urban environments, in a safe and controlled manner, through a single authorization framework.

The mayor of the city, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and Marc Vidal, economic analyst and technology communicator, participated in the presentation.

Call for private entities open until March 2, 2026

Sandbox Madrid allows innovation to be approached from different perspectives, such as urban transformation, improving people's lives, as an economic driver, or positioning the capital as an international benchmark, as there is no other experience at European or global level that is as comprehensive as the one proposed by Madrid.

There are currently two calls for proposals underway at Sandbox Madrid: one aimed at public sector entities, which is permanently open, and another aimed at private sector companies and entrepreneurs, which is open until March 2, 2026. The latter focuses on energy, sustainability, and the circular economy.

Through this call for proposals, participating entities can validate their proposals in a real urban environment, while Madrid City Council gains direct knowledge about the functioning, risks, and impact of new solutions applied to the city.

All information about the call for applications, participation requirements, and the application process is available on the official Sandbox Madrid website www.sandboxmadrid.es and on the Madrid City Council's electronic headquarters.
