On March 11, 2026, the first call for applications for Sandbox Madrid—aimed at companies, entrepreneurs, and other private entities—closed, with significant participation from the business community.
The call for proposals has received more than 70 applications for participation, corresponding to projects seeking access to the controlled testing environment and related to one of the areas specified in the guidelines: sustainability, the circular economy, or energy. This number reflects the business community’s growing commitment to innovation and the transition toward more sustainable models.
The quality and diversity of the projects submitted demonstrate the significant potential for promoting innovative solutions that help address today’s environmental and energy challenges, thereby contributing to the development of more sustainable, efficient, and resilient urban environments.
We at Sandbox Madrid would like to express our gratitude to all the organizations that participated in this first call for proposals, highlighting their commitment, dedication, and support for innovation.
This milestone marks the beginning of a process aimed at fostering experimentation, public-private collaboration, and the development of transformative solutions for the city.
The proposal evaluation process is already underway—a key phase in which the projects that will have the opportunity to move on to the testing phase within the Sandbox environment will be selected.
